MODERN WEDDING SHOOT
Enjoy the behind the scene pics from the latest shoot I did for Modern Wedding Magazine. Samantha Harris is looking gorgeous and I love the overall look. I was glad to be part of this special shoot. All gowns will be auctioned for the National Breast Cancer Foundation for their spring edition.
To create the hair, I used my new pony layer hairpiece. This is my latest must-have styling accessory at the moment. It is incredibly versatile and it added the bulk and fullness to Samantha’s fine hair that I needed. Happy Styling!

NEW COLLECTION! 2012 Hair Expo Hairdresser of the Year Collection
In case you haven’t heard I made the finals for the 2012 Hair Expo Hairdresser of the Year and Educator of the Year awards. I am thrilled and looking forward to a fantastic and busy Hair Expo. I am getting my creative juices flowing for my seminar and looking forward to sharing some amazing techniques and gorgeous looks. New Coffee Table Book Sneak Peak
It’s been a few months in preparation, so I am thrilled to finally announce I will be launching my fourth book this coming June at Hair Expo Australia.
My new Coffee Table Book will feature 16 gorgeous looks. There is a huge range of do’s. It is very editorial and there is something for everyone.
This book is coming together so well because of the brilliant team involved. It has been 5 years since my last book, so I look forward to sharing some great step-by-steps to achieve the hottest looks.

Boot Camp Milestone
Boot Camp celebrated its 10th Boot Camp since its conception 18 months ago.
The boutique training academy Answers 2 Hair in Ringwood, Melbourne hosted the January event that attracted students from all over Australia as well as Hong Kong, Ireland and New Zealand.
Students love learning how to do the latest finger waves, beautiful curls, the latest red carpet, bridal and session looks that don’t take hours to create.

HOW TO-Create the front cover look for Modern Hair+Beauty
I had an amazing time shooting for Modern Hair+Beauty for their annual hair and beauty “bible”. Want to know how I created the front cover look (top left image)? Check out my below step by steps and have a sneak peak from inside the magazine. This edition is available in all good newsagencies.
1. I used two Headlines hairpieces to add bulk and fullness to the look.
2 .I did two separate scalp braids beginning 2cm back from the hairline around the head. I then clipped and sewed the pieces into the braid.
3. Using stretch elastic I did a figure 8 weave around the elastic. This technique is taught in my How To Do...Vintage Waves DVD. Once the weave was completed I then clamped it with a hot iron to set and allowed it to cool.
4. Using a large tooth comb I relaxed the curl starting at the nape to encourage more fullness.
5. Using a double barrel tong I did random waves around the face to give more definition to the curl.

HOW TO-Angelina Jolie Golden Globe Look
Ever wonder how some of the looks on the red carpet are created?
I have been checking out Angelina Jolie’s hair from the Golden Globes and in my opinion, I think this is the way it would have been done.
1. Firstly, directionally blow-dry the hair towards the crown and at the nape up, work the hair towards the crown, to smooth the hair.
2. Use a thermal spray and set the entire head with large hot rollers for body and bounce, allowing the rollers to cool down and then to be removed.
3. Brush the hair from roots to end and divide the front away from the top of the ear to ear.
4. Work the back section first up to the lower crown and apply a loose pony tail into the section.
5. Gently back comb the front section to add height, working it back into the existing pony tail and smooth over the outer hair.
6. Band both sections together into a single pony.
7. Comb the pony and twist the hair into a loose single twist.
8. Coil the twist into a small ballet bun and pin to hold.

Boot Camp Melbourne - January 2012
Boot Camp Melbourne was a special one for Sharon Blain Education as we celebrated our 10th Boot Camp since we hosted our very first one 18 months ago. We loved attracting students from all over Australia as well as Hong Kong, Ireland and New Zealand.
We had a talented bunch of stylists who were so enthused to learn the latest finger waves, beautiful curls, the latest red carpet, bridal and session looks that are quick and easy to learn and don’t take hours to create.

Project Runway
What an amazing experience Project Runway has been. In case you weren’t aware, I have been leading the team in the Goldwell Salon for Project Runway Series 3. A big thank you to Goldwell Australia for heading up such an amazing team for a huge and creative event. It has been exciting, challenging and most of all, CREATIVE. I absolutely love meeting the amazing designers and working with them to create their catwalk designs. Have a look at some of the pics.

This year I have been packing my “Boot Camp Bags” and taking my innovative course to 5 states within Australia as well as the US. I have met some strong and motivated stylists whom I have thoroughly enjoyed educating and seeing them grow and gain so much confidence. 2011 Hair Expo Australia
If I were to sum up Hair Expo Australia, what would I say – months of prep, chaos, creativity, inspiration and the busiest 3 days of the year? So, why am I still attending after 15 years – my passion and dedication to this amazing industry! The Art of Hair Creative Team and I held live demonstrations on the Sharon Blain and Big Towel Company stand. I released two new DVD’s, After Dark and How To… Use Creative Tongs, endorsed an electrical range, presented my seminar and mentored a team for their Next Generation Show. Did I mention I WON Educator of the Year for the 3rd year in a row? A huge thank you to everyone who came and said hi and supported me during the amazing weekend.

I am so delighted to have won Educator of the Year at the prestigious Schwarzkopf Professional 2011 Hair Expo Awards for the 3rd year in a row. Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years. Thank you for allowing me to live my fantasy of educating this sensational industry. I love to teach and my biggest thrill is to see people appreciate what I deliver and grow as stylists.
Next Generation Show – Hair Expo Australia 2011
What a privilege for me to mentor 5 wonderful young hairdressers and help them realise their dreams and present a show at Hair Expo for the Next Generation Show. These talented stylists entered a competition and won their rights to develop the show concept, choose the music, costumes and design the most amazing hair pieces. Emotions were high as they took their bow after eight dancers portrayed a chess theme show.

Hair Expo, After Dark Seminar
I conducted an intimate 90 minute seminar, After Dark at Hair Expo. Showcasing my signature long hair styles, the audience saw styles fit for bridal and red carpet events. Giving insight to techniques, tricks and tips, attendees were able to take home to their clients creative, new skills that were at the forefront of the latest trends.
My main focus and drive is to bring out peoples inner passion by using simple step-by-step techniques. Many stylists are afraid of long hair styling. Many times we forget that doing a hairstyle should in fact be easy – they aren’t as complicated as we think they actually are.Using a combination of hair textures, attendees saw sculpted styles using braiding, curling padding
and tongs. I hope everyone enjoyed After Dark and agreed it was a show filled with passion, creativity and fun!
